St. Louis Chicken Shop abruptly closes

Chicken Out, the fast-casual eatery specializing in fried chicken sandwiches, and operated by the same proprietors of Sugarfire Smokehouse, Hi-Pointe Drive-In, and several other dining establishments in the St. Louis area, has shuttered its branch at 6197 Delmar Blvd.

Interestingly, the closure hasn’t been mentioned anywhere on Chicken Out’s social media, however its Google profile does list it as permanently closed. While still mentioned on their official site, the location address has been removed from their Instagram account.

Launched in June 2020 by Mike Johnson, Ben Hillman, and Charlie Downs, Chicken Out introduced a fresh perspective on fast-food fried chicken. Their menu primarily featured pressure-fried chicken offered in the form of sandwiches, tenders, and salads. Notably, Chicken Out embraced an eco-conscious approach with biodegradable or recyclable disposables and included plant-based chicken alternatives on the menu.

It’s worth mentioning that the Kirkwood location at 10463 Manchester Road, which commenced operations in the summer of 2021, remains in business. The ownership group continues to operate multiple Sugarfire Smoke House establishments spanning four states, numerous Hi-Pointe Drive-In locations in Missouri and Illinois, as well as the Boathouse in Forest Park and Cyrano’s in Webster Groves.

Before Chicken Out occupied this space, it was previously home to Piccione Bakery. With this in mind, it will be interesting to see how the next occupant gets on in this location.
