Eerie images highlight empty decline of once vibrant Westfield Mall

Recently, a San Francisco resident went to the once-bustling Westfield Mall and took a few photographs of the place. Here, it was eerily empty and showed once vibrant places completely devoid of human activity. One photo of the 9 stories showed a mere two people in the distance, while another photo of the main dome area was completely empty.

The photographer even showed a picture of the cinema area that was equally as lifeless and was shut for good. Although this may not be breaking news for San Franciscans, there is something very final about seeing it in visual form as opposed to word of mouth.

The image above was uploaded on Reddit where the original user who shared the picture said: “Not only is half the business missing even the movie theater is gone. Although I thought the escalator was unique it is such a waste of space. I believe this entire building is a tear down.” Arguably, this is a real shame considering its beautiful architecture.

Originally established in 1988, the Westfield San Francisco Center enjoyed a thriving and lively existence. Boasting a pristine interior, upscale boutiques, and a welcoming ambiance, it was the preferred destination for shopping excursions and social gatherings with friends. Presently, after more than three decades, the establishment faces the grim prospect of a bleak future.
