The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer advisory regarding Yue Bai Wei, a restaurant situated on Forbes Avenue in Squirrel Hill, due to several health code violations discovered during an inspection conducted on Tuesday. Despite this, it doesn’t mean that Yue Bai Wei has been forced into closing either which is typically enforced due to more serious failures.

The violations include opened packages that were found to be contaminated with rodent droppings in the dry storage area, raw whole chickens stored in stagnant water within a prep sink, moldy whole cauliflower in a walk-in storage area, and raw, uncovered fish placed above uncovered cabbage.

Additionally, prepared foods like cooked noodles, diced raw chicken in sauces, raw organ meats, cooked egg products, and tofu were not appropriately labeled with use-by or discard dates. Furthermore, the inspection revealed a significant concern: no employee handwashing was observed. Proper handwashing is mandated by the health department, and employees are expected to wash their hands and exposed portions of their arms with soap and warm water in various situations.

Despite these violations, the restaurant continues to operate. Intriguingly, it also has good online reviews which indicates that sometimes, poor hygiene isn’t always linked to customer satisfaction. Nonetheless, hopefully this means that Yue Bai Wei will address these problems going forward.
