Tate Reeves criticized for meeting with Mississippi’s African-American community leaders

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves yesterday met with members of the state’s African-American community. During this meeting, he took various photos of their discussion and wrote about it on Twitter. Here, he captioned the photos by saying: ‘I was glad to meet with leaders in the African American community on the Coast tonight to discuss the progress we’ve made in the last four years and the work to come. Proud to work for the people of Mississippi!’

Undoubtedly, Reeves was proud of this meeting but not everyone viewed it this way. As you may have guessed, some Twitter members quickly used this status to criticize the governor for his policies.

One user claimed that this was a cynical photo-op. Elsewhere, another wrote: “You are shameless. These folks see right through you, I’m sure.”

Similarly, another user said: “How do you work for the people of MS? We don’t hear from you ’till election time or when you send help back or won’t help at all. I am glad you met with some black people though (but) not a damn thing will happen behind it. But whatever, vote blue people.”

It should be noted that not everyone criticized Reeves. In fact, some claimed that his suit of choice was sharp and complimented the governor on his style. Nonetheless, this shows that sometimes people aren’t happy about certain politicians regardless of what they get up to.
