A photo recently went viral on social media that showed two Portland drivers using the bike lane. This was highlighted by the green paint and obstacles that still didn’t fail to dissuade them from entering it. It is not known whether this was accidental or whether it was done to save time.

Irrespective of ignorance, this is still highly illegal and could have potentially caused a crash. Despite this, it also shows how if they drive tight enough, cars can actually fit in the bike lanes. The image was originally uploaded to Reddit, where users had their say on the state of the driving in their city.

According to one local, this wasn’t as uncommon as it may first seem. Here, they replied saying: “Very common at this intersection, not least with Providence Park traffic, but also people trying to escape the one-way of Everett and circle back somewhere via Burnside. You can’t really see it’s bike-only until you’re nearly upon it. (It) needs more ugly bendy future-litter plastic bollard things lining the bike lane, I guess?”

Similarly, others condemned this driving and also claimed that the obstacles could have been made to stop cars with greater impact. On a separate note, one user also remarked that Portland’s streets were poorly designed so it may have been accidental. Regardless, this type of driving seems to have upset quite a few people.
