Giant Troll sculpture mysteriously appears in Salt Lake City

October 13, 2023 by No Comments

Yesterday, an image went viral that showed a huge wooden sculpture of a troll sitting on train tracks. Obviously, if you happened to stumble across this sculpture then you may be shocked to see such a creation in the wild. What’s even more mysterious is that it has no signage showing its origins.

It turns out that this was the work of a local woodworking artist named Garth Franklin who recently created it for a festival named Hoodah. This took place at the end of September which means afterwards, the giant troll needed a new home.

News of this sculpture was originally posted on Reddit by a shocked local who wrote this: “I was walking to work and found this gentleman sitting on the defunct train tracks near 400w 700s. He wasn’t there two days before. There’s no information placard or signature of any kind that I could see. Does anyone know where he came from or if he’s permitted by the city to be here? I’ll be very sad if he’s taken down.”

Overall, it’s nice to see a local artist getting recognition. Not only this but it also adds character to the area and a sense of mystery when you randomly place a large wooden troll in an abandoned area. Overall, it will be interesting to see if this sculpture stays in its current position or eventually moves on.
