For the past 19 years, Michael Thomas Coffee has been proudly serving the residents of New Mexico. However, this longstanding tradition is currently facing a temporary hiatus at one of their establishments.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, proprietor Michael Sweeney revealed that the decision to temporarily close their Carlisle location was a deeply emotional one. This decision was made in light of their inability to fully staff the Carlisle branch.

Specifically, the Facebook post read: ‘Dear Community, we are deeply sad to announce tomorrow Friday, October 6th, will be our last day open at our Carlisle location. Starting Monday, October 9th we are temporarily closing this location.’ The post continued, calling the decision to close ‘extremely emotional.‘ This garnered hundreds of likes and many comments paying their respects to one of Albuquerque’s oldest coffee shops.

The Albuquerque coffee shop celebrated its 19th anniversary on October 4th. As per the owner, the closure is expected to be of a semi-permanent nature. Presently, their focus will be directed towards their Bryn Mawr location in Nob Hill, which will continue to operate as usual. Nevertheless, it’s worth noting that the lease for the Carlisle location is set to expire in January. The path forward will need to be determined once this date approaches. In the meantime, they will continue to roast coffee beans at the Carlisle location.
