A new wall was recently built on Minnesota Drive in Anchorage. This was originally built to change the flow of pedestrians using the area to make crossings safer. However, the new, metal fence has been met with lots of criticism from Anchorage locals. Originally photographed by a Twitter user named Dr. Daniel Volland, he captioned the image by writing: ‘This new dividing wall on Minnesota is utterly terrible for visibility and wayfinding. Bad, bad design.’ The full Tweet can be seen below which shows the newly installed fence in all of its glory.

Replying to the image, a user named Paxson Woelber wrote: “That fence is so ugly I thought it was temporary at first. We need to do way more to make midtown work for cyclists and pedestrians. This approach is just sad.”

It wasn’t just Twitter who disliked the fence either. Over at Reddit, a thread also discussed the wall and garnered over 130 comments. In a similar fashion, the users weren’t happy with it at all. Based on the initial public reaction, it will be interesting to see if DOT eventually removes it or not. Until then, it looks as though it’s hear to stay for the foreseeable future which many aren’t happy with.
