Voodoo Brewing Co.’s Knoxville taproom, which was owned and operated by a local couple, Leisa and Michael “Vinny” Leo, officially shuttered its doors on October 9. This independently-owned establishment, situated on Brookview Centre Way, marked the Leos’ debut in the business world. On October 9, they used their social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, to announce the closure, describing it as an “indefinite” suspension of operations.

Here their statement read: “It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the indefinite closing of Voodoo Brewing Co. – Knoxville on October 9th. As difficult as this decision is, it is the right one for us as independent owners at this time. We’d like to offer a big Voodoo thank you to the city of Knoxville and all of our valued patrons for the memories we’ve shared and the support that we’ve received since our grand opening.”

This closure was announced just 10 months after the company opened in the city. Historically, Knoxville can be a tough city to crack with new ideas from elsewhere. Responding on Reddit, one Knoxville local said: “It’s tradition in Knoxville to move here from 10-15 hours away and open a business you think is fail-proof only to fail spectacularly and somehow then blame the locals for not supporting you despite not having anything worth supporting.”

Having commenced operations in December 2022, the taproom had exclusively offered a selection of beers from the Pennsylvania-based Voodoo Brewing Co.
