Michelle Lujan Grisham blasted for equal pay comments

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham recently faced a fierce backlash on her Twitter account after making divisive comments surrounding equal pay. Here, more than 330 replied to her status, with many criticizing her views and questioning the validity of her findings. This was her Tweet: “Latina women are paid 52 cents on the dollar to all U.S. men. On #LatinaEqualPayDay, we recommit ourselves to pay parity for all. I was proud to support equity through increasing the minimum wage and implementing historic raises for teachers and childcare workers in New Mexico.” It can be seen below in more detail.

Replying to this, one user wrote: “This is missing information. Do most Latina women want to work? Are they qualified for higher paying jobs? Are you including women who are men, but not men and are now trans? Not very inclusive of you and very skewed for someone spouting “equity” nonsense.” In short, despite the Governor’s dramatic claims, there is always context to be mulled over when looking at socioeconomic factors in society.

Similarly, another user said: “You’re trying to toot your own horn for something that doesn’t exist. Get real. Women are paid just as much as men and a lot of times even more. You didn’t score any points with this one.” Overall, you could argue that this was a case of pandering gone wrong. Regardless, Michelle Lujan Grisham is still set to run until 2027 so it looks like if you’re not a fan then you’ll have to stick with her for now.
