Yesterday, a shocked Hunstville local snapped (excuse the pun) a picture of a huge alligator casually crossing the street. As seen, this monster had a huge tail and was seemingly trying to get toward the grassy verge. In the background, an onlooker can be seen watching the alligator as it goes about its business.

Although alligators have been roaming Earth for millions of years, it’s not exactly a common sight to see in modern-day Huntsville. The image was originally uploaded to Reddit, where the user confirmed the sighting took place at NW Madison.

According to one user, this alligator is actually a local of one of the neighborhoods and can sometimes be sighted in the area. Here, they wrote: “This is in the gated neighborhood of Gator Valley. It’s a prominent locale in Madison/Huntsville region.” It goes without saying, that you should not approach this alligator if you see it around, even if it is quite an interesting and unusual sight.

According to this website, there are a total of 70,000 alligators currently living in Alabama. Of course, most of these are in swamplands and live away from major cities. Usually, these animals enter urban areas when they get lost or when their habitat gets destroyed.
