Tee Jaye’s sign removed – But thankfully the iconic owl remains

If you’ve lived in Columbus for long enough, you may be aware of the iconic owl that is perched on the top of the Tee Jaye’s sign. This sign has been around for decades but has since closed. Naturally, you may be wondering what this means for the owl.

Since its closure, the sight has been snapped up by Chick-fil-A who have since promised to keep the owl. Yesterday, an image showed the original Tee Jaye’s signage had been removed but the owl stayed in place. In fairness, it would have been a local PR disaster to remove the owl. The picture was uploaded to Reddit, where the owl was proudly perched in its usual spot.

The sign, originally constructed in 1961, was included in Columbus Landmark’s 2021 list of endangered buildings due to changes in businesses and non-compliance with the current zoning code.

Starting from the highest point, the owl perched atop the sign will remain in place, but the neon lights of the arrow will be substituted with modern LED lights. The arrow will exhibit animated features reminiscent of the Tee Jaye’s sign.

Chick-fil-A plans to replace the three existing sign cabinets. The top cabinet will display “Chick-fil-A,” the second will indicate “Closed Sunday,” and the last cabinet will continue to serve as a message board with interchangeable letters.
