Sacramento shamed as image shows trash left everywhere at Aftershock

Yesterday, a widely circulated image on social media shed light on the significant litter accumulation observed at the DWP stage during Aftershock. The venue’s floor was conspicuously strewn with a plethora of debris, predominantly consisting of discarded water bottles and plastic cups. Evidently, there was a notable lack of consideration for maintaining the cleanliness of the area, as the substantial garbage pile was visible to all.

This took place at Aftershock which is an annual music festival held in Sacramento. It typically features a diverse lineup of rock, metal, and alternative music acts, catering to a broad range of musical tastes within the rock genre.

Reacting to the sight on Reddit, one user wrote: “This was so disheartening to see as I was walking out last night. There are trash cans everywhere. No excuse for this.” This simultaneously highlights music festival culture and isn’t exclusive to Sacramento either. Often, revelers will callously dump bottles on the floor with little afterthought of the consequences.

Regrettably, it appears that this issue is unlikely to dissipate anytime soon. This predicament is disheartening, as it could be easily mitigated if individuals exercised more respect and responsibility. Moreover, it reflects poorly on specific members of the Sacramento community who seem indifferent to the well-being of their city and the efforts required by the workers responsible for tidying up after them.
