Iconic Gibraltar Trade Center man gets new paint job

Back in 1970, The Gibraltar Trade Center was founded which was known for its sprawling indoor market space, with hundreds of vendor booths and a lively atmosphere. Here, shoppers could find a diverse range of products and often enjoyed the experience of browsing through the many different offerings. This was the case until 2017 when the center closed for good.

Although the Trade Center has since closed, its mascot, a 25-foot-tall advert named The Gibraltar Trade Center Man has remained standing and is a part of Detroit’s culture and cities history. Since yesterday, images have surfaced showing the mascot now has a new paint job. Instead of donning his typical brown suit, he now wears blue.

News of the paint job recently circulated on social media and first appeared on Reddit. Whether for better or worse, it looks like the Gibraltar Trade Center Man has a new look. It is not known whether he will be turned into a new mascot but this information will definitely be revealed in the coming days.

It is highly possible that he could also be turned into a stoner, seeing as the location is undergoing a significant transformation into a substantial cannabis dispensary and a cannabis-infused beverage venture. So, the next question is whether a spliff will be added to his hand or not. Whatever happens, hopefully the mascot isn’t ripped down or changed too much.

After remaining unused for half a decade, this site is now poised for a comprehensive revitalization with support from the Pleasantrees organization. Notably, Rick Wershe, also known as ‘White Boy Rick,’ is collaborating with Pleasantrees to introduce his cannabis brand as part of this exciting venture.
