Fears that bed bugs could invade NYC after Paris fashion week

New York authorities are currently unable to definitively determine whether the recent bedbug outbreak in France has impacted American cities. This uncertainty follows the commencement of Paris Fashion Week last week, during which thousands of individuals working in the fashion industry and influencers may have been exposed to these blood-feeding insects.

The social media accounts of Paris residents have been inundated with videos depicting bedbugs crawling on subway seats. Some individuals have also shared videos zooming in on the appearance of red welts on their skin, which they claim to have acquired after visiting chain cinemas.

Emmanuel Grégoire, the deputy mayor of Paris, issued a cautionary statement last week, stating, “In reality, no one is safe… bedbugs can be encountered anywhere and inadvertently transported back home.”

On social media platforms, there has been a growing trend of blaming editors and influencers for potentially introducing bedbugs into their New York residences. However, it is important to note that, at present, concerns regarding a bedbug outbreak in New York remain speculative.

A representative from the New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, as mentioned by Dr. Jim Fredericks, an entomologist and senior vice-president of public affairs at the National Pest Management Association, has confirmed that they are not currently monitoring any reports of a bedbug infestation originating from Paris affecting the United States.
