Tate Reeves criticized for backing Mississippi police force

Yesterday, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves took to his personal Twitter account to exclaim his honor of being endorsed by the state’s Police Benevolent Association. Here, he posed for a photo with several high-ranking officers within the group and proudly wrote: “I’m honored to be endorsed by the Mississippi Police Benevolent Association. While other states have attempted to demonize law enforcement and pushed a radical ‘Defund the Police’ movement, Mississippi will always Back the Blue. I look forward to continuing to empower Mississippi’s police and work alongside our law enforcement officers to make Mississippi safer every day.” The Tweet can be seen in more detail below.

Replying to his message, a Twitter user named Kay wrote: “Tater Tot would do anything right about now! It’s campaign AIR! All of a sudden you stand with Blue!”

Another user weighed in with a similar, disparaging remark and added: “What about helping to fund law enforcement so that those who put their lives at risk for us can actually make a living wage without having to have a side gig?”

On the other side of the spectrum, others supported Reeves and his solidarity with the police force. If nothing else, this serves as a good example that politics can often be interpreted in different ways and that criticism will never be too far around the corner.
