New Soul Food Cafe opens in Newark with a very famous owner
Rapper Jim Jones recently shared the exciting news about the inauguration of Mamma J’s cafe in Newark, New Jersey, which is owned by his mother. Jones enthusiastically disclosed that the restaurant officially welcomed customers on October 1st in the Garden State, where he personally joined to extend a warm welcome to his fans during the grand opening event.
The opening was also announced on Jim Jones’s Instagram. Here, he confirmed that the cuisine would be soul food. The opening was certainly a success, with the line going outside of the door and around the block.
For those out of the loop, Jim Jones gained prominence as a member of the hip-hop group The Diplomats, also known as Dipset, in the early 2000s. The Diplomats, which included members like Cam’ron and Juelz Santana, played a significant role in the East Coast rap scene.
According to the cafe’s Instagram page, this will not just be a soul food cafe either. It also claims to be a safe space for the deaf and hard of hearing in Newark. For those who wish to visit and savor the offerings at Mamma J’s, the cafe is conveniently situated at 2 Treat Place in Newark, New Jersey.
This follows on from the theme of the previous occupant, Deaf’s Delight Cafe who previously closed earlier in the year. Needless to say, it looks like Mama Jones won’t be spending her summers in Miami due to having a lot of food on her plate.
