Hundreds of individuals gathered outside The Shops at Santa Anita Mall this weekend to celebrate the opening of the sixth location of 99 Ranch Market in the San Gabriel Valley. Established in 1984, 99 Ranch Market initially focused on serving Chinese cuisine but has since expanded to include a diverse array of Asian culinary offerings. Shoppers have praised it as a go-to destination, especially for immigrants seeking ingredients that are not readily available in typical American grocery stores. This unique niche has allowed the chain to flourish within diaspora communities, resulting in over 50 stores across 11 states.

The excitement surrounding the grand opening on September 30th was palpable. Scores of eager shoppers gathered early on Saturday morning to witness the traditional lion dance, a prelude to the official unveiling of the market’s 36,000-square-foot space on the mall’s first floor, which had previously been occupied by Forever 21. Distinguished guests, including Arcadia Mayor April Verlato, 99 Ranch Market CEO Alice Chen, as well as other elected officials and business leaders, were in attendance to mark the occasion. The celebration also included a special event featuring the cutting of a fresh bluefin tuna in the afternoon.

While the store’s success has primarily been built on its devoted immigrant customer base, the grand opening also drew a diverse crowd, including second-generation shoppers and individuals from various cultures seeking unique and rare culinary treasures.
