A shocking video was recently uploaded to Reddit which showed the moment a stolen Kia tried to purposely run over a dog walker and his canine companion. This took place this week at Hamilton Street between Mt. Hope and South Ave and as seen, the video begins with the dog walker causally walking his pet.

When out of view, a screech is heard (which is presumably when the car mounts the sidewalk). This is followed by the scream of the driver, and then eventually the car drives past the CCTV and into sight. At this point, it is clearly driving very fast and is obviously a danger to the public. Thankfully, it is understood that the pedestrian and his dog were not harmed during this incident.

Aside from this incident, it appears to be a growing social media trend to hit pedestrians. Another Rochester resident had this to say regarding the above video: “Yeah since I wasn’t injured and my neighbor’s ring cameras were too grainy the cops didn’t do anything. The person sped up and pulled all the way over and someone in the passenger back seat pushed the door open into my back when I was riding, pretty nuts!”

In late 2021, the phenomenon known as the “Kia Boys” gained widespread attention on social media. They became prominent through their involvement in a viral social media challenge centered around a particular technique for stealing Kias and Hyundais, showcasing their exploits on platforms such as TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube.

This mostly comprised of teenagers hailing from the East Coast and this trend of car theft soon garnered nationwide attention.
