Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves bashed over military photo op

This week, Tate Reeves celebrated Blue Star Welcome Week which was an initiative to help military families in Mississippi. Here, he spoke to a number of those serving and also took photos with them. While there’s nothing wrong with supporting America’s troops, some Twitter users used the affair to criticize Reeves and question how genuine his involvement truly was.

Reeves’s post started by saying: “Each year around 600,000 active duty and transitioning military families move to new communities. I was proud to celebrate Blue Star Welcome Week — Mississippi will continue to do everything it can to support military families across the state and welcome them here.” The full statement can be seen below.

Responding with cynicism, one user named Desiree said: “By helping shut down their paychecks and healthcare? Okay Tater Tot.”

Similarly, another Tweet claimed: “If you actually cared about them, you would push for Defend The Guard legislation.”

Defend the Guard is a movement and legislative effort in the United States that seeks to limit the deployment of the state’s National Guard troops and resources to federal military actions or conflicts without a formal declaration of war by Congress. Despite his efforts, it looks as though several Mississippi locals weren’t too happy with Reeves and his stance involving the military. This shows that as a politician, your every move will often come under scrutiny.
