Footage shows Storm drain threatening to explode after chaotic downpour

Unless you were under a rock yesterday, you may have noticed the torrential downpour that took place in Jersey City yesterday. These flash floods occurred throughout New Jersey and New York and quickly made headlines. In the video below, a storm drain literally bubbled over due to being overloaded by too much rainwater.

The drain was covered (somewhat) by three orange cones but this seemed futile more than offering a real solution. Despite looking quite interesting, this storm drain also posed a real threat to passersby. This is because it could have exploded outward at any moment and could have caused severe harm if it hit someone. As always, this shows the true force of Mother Nature and that sometimes it can’t be tamed.

The video was originally uploaded to Reddit and was confirmed to take place at Los Cuernos on Washinton Blvd. Here, some users jokingly referred to it as a geyser, while others drew comparisons to the Ghostbusters scene. Others weren’t as pleased, with one claiming it could be a sewage drain while another said: “Good to see that the city management has the presence of mind to put out the impenetrable cones which everyone knows will protect anyone from anything no matter what. Which is why they’re there. This begs the question many people have asked for a long time, why not put the cones inside the sewer system and maybe we wouldn’t be having these problems.”

Thankfully, nothing major happened as a result of this incident. Nonetheless, it could have gone a lot worse and shows the sheer amount of water that dropped in Jersey City yesterday.
