Yesterday, S27 Ales announced their shock closure. This was mentioned on their Facebook page in a lengthy announcement. Here, part of their statement read: “This year has seen our costs rise across all fronts, and combined with a slump in sales, we’re at the point where the smart decision is to shut down when things are still good. There’s no “perfect storm” story, no villain to uncover, no investigative work to be done, and no one to take any retribution out on. The end doesn’t care about all that. The end can be long and painful, and right up until the last moment, painful to witness. So with that, we’re winding down when things are still good, and allow us to continue to serve you until the last day.”

With this in mind, it looks as though there’s no drama or bitterness about closing. Nonetheless, it does hint that rising financial costs helped push the decision to close.

The statement gained comments from the San Jose ale community who paid their respects to the business and thanked them for their years of service. Over the years, it wasn’t just beers that S27 Alehouse served. They were also known for their stellar food, such as their burritos which were a hit with the customers. As well as this, they also featured live music, so it’s not just a brewery that has closed. In fact, you could argue that this place was iconic in San Jose and helped bring the community together.
