Kim Reynolds criticized after Iowa budget comments
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds recently sparked controversy after her recent comments on Iowa’s financial status. On Twitter, she wrote: ‘Common sense budgeting practices are working in Iowa! Cash reserves are full & taxes are coming down!’ Despite this being written as a positive statement, some didn’t see it that way and used it as an opportunity to criticize the Governor.
In fairness, Reynolds has often been described as divisive during her time as Iowa’s Governor, so these comments aren’t exactly unusual. The full tweet can be seen below.
Responding to this, Iowan Marie Atreides had this to say: “And she did it by reducing services, defunding schools, endorse child labor & kicking .people off medicaid & snap. Rest assured, WE are paying for the tax cuts to corporations that are exploiting Iowans. Also, let’s not forget, she manages budget surpluses by hoarding our taxes.”
Similarly, user Jess Jones wrote: “What happens when you deplete our reserves to pay for rich kids to go to private schools? Whose taxes get raised then?” Unfortunately for Reynolds, these were only a handful of negative comments who responded to her status, as over 100 people gave their take on her comments with the majority going against her. Ultimately, it depends on your stance and shows how politics can be viewed differently by everyone.
