New photo shows upgrades to Lake Street Station

New photos taken over the weekend have highlighted the upgrades given to the Lake Street Station. These upgrades have been planned for some time and have been documented on the metro line’s website. Here, they claim that updates will include: ‘The south tower at Lake Street/Midtown Station reopened on Saturday, Aug. 6. The following building improvements were made during this time: Elevator RepairInterior Painting & Wallpaper Bench Refurbishment.’ It’s fair to say that this station has looked a little dated for quite some time, so the changes have been welcomed by Minneapolis residents.

These aren’t the only changes either, as various metro stations throughout the city will also be upgraded over the coming months. It is believed that this particular line was upgraded earlier than others due to its popularity and strategic nature within the city.

The image was originally uploaded to Reddit, with one user writing: “I don’t think it’s looked this clean since it opened. Also, there’s security there now, so it seems they listened to the public’s concerns.”

Interestingly, the addition of a security guard will come as a welcome relief to locals which may add a layer of comfort when using the line. Despite the upgrades being welcomed by many, it’s not all good news. This is because from October, the metro area transit sales tax begins which may explain where the funding has come from.
