Governor John Bel Edwards faces mass criticism over photo op due to Angola controversy
Louisiana’s Governor found himself in more hot water recently. This took place during a photo op which seemed innocent enough. Nonetheless, the people weren’t happy and made it known on his Instagram account in the comments section.
The criticism began when Governor Edwards wrote: ‘The contributions made to Louisiana by Hispanic and Latino Americans simply cannot be overstated. That’s why I was proud to join the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to provide special recognition for National Hispanic Heritage Month in Louisiana.’
As you may have figured, there was one prevailing theme from commenters who made their opinions heard. These opinions were about Angola. Many comments made claims such as: “Time to remove the kids from Angola!” and “Get the children out of prison what is wrong with you?”
It wasn’t just this post that gained controversy either. Below is a screenshot of another recent Instagram post of Edwards’s which shows what the people of Louisiana think of him. Clearly, there is a large group of people who aren’t happy with the idea of jailing children with grown adults. Regardless of your political stance, it is easy to understand why this policy has not been well received.
Overall, it will be interesting to see how the whole Angola scenario unfolds and whether Edwards’s political career will be able to survive the fallout that follows.
