Workplay Kakaako announces abrupt closure
Yesterday, Wokplay in Kakaako abruptly announced its closure. In a lengthy Instagram post, they claimed it was due to failing to renegotiate the lease with their landlord. As a result, they have since closed. In the statement, they thanked customers for the past 5 years of service before claiming that they may re-open in the near future at a different location. In other words, the decision to close wasn’t a personal one, nor was it because the business was failing financially.
Workplay was known for its alcoholic beverages, as well as live music and cigar culture which made it one of the main chill-out spots in the neighborhood.
Over the years, WorkPlay received positive reviews from customers and clearly made its mark on the community. Interestingly, on its Yelp page, it claims that the venue is temporarily closed and will re-open on January 1st. With this said, this could be the date that the owner looks at re-opening. At this point however, this is not confirmed and is only speculation.
On a final note, it is not known what the previous venue will be used for or when it will be occupied again. However, due to the nature of the building, you would assume it would most likely be another entertainment venue.
