Washington DC Restaurant praised for removing mandatory tips

Over the past year, the US hospitality industry has undergone a tidal wave of stealth tipping. Here, restaurants will often try to sneak extra fees onto the end of a meal. Understandably, customers have grown tired of this and often call out these restaurants for bad practices. With this in mind, it’s nice to see a Washington, DC restaurant completely remove tips from their bill which has earned them widespread praise.

Specifically, we’re talking about the pizzeria, 2 Amy’s. This has been around in Washington for years and is widely regarded as one of the best pizza joints in town. Yesterday, a delighted customer took to Reddit to heap praise on the restaurant and highlighted their customer-friendly policy with a photo of the receipt.

As seen, the bottom of the receipt says: ‘Hospitality is now included, so no tipping. Welcome to the 90’s, Mr. Banks’. The diner who uploaded the image also went on to say: “I went here over the weekend – first time in a long while – and I was pleasantly surprised (no service charge, no tip line, etc). Please support these kinds of businesses!”

This image didn’t go unnoticed either, as over 80 people replied to the photo. Here, the majority praised 2 Amy’s and also agreed that the food on offer was very good. Hopefully, this shows a change in tide where more restaurants will step up to the plate, rather than serving questionable fees instead.
