Yesterday, the Mayor of Delaware, John Carney was met with mockery after making a comment on his Facebook page. Here, he posted a link to a ‘Happiest places to live in America’ article and wrote this: “The city of Wilmington was recognized by Outside Online as one of the best places to live in America because of its parks, outdoor access, inclusivity, and vibrant community. Read about why so many people love our state’s largest city.”

Here, over 200 people commented on his status, with one resident writing: “Wilmington is one of the last places on earth I would live.” Similarly, a user named Michael Botros wrote: “This is actually funny! I hope you don’t believe that, Governor.”

It is no secret for Delaware residents that Wilmington isn’t a particularly desirable place to live. For instance, this website claims that its crime rate was far higher than most other US cities. Furthermore, the validity of the original website must be investigated considering it is based on an opinion more than anything of real substance. With this in mind, it’s not too surprising to see that people saw the funny side of this post and didn’t necessarily agree. Thankfully for Carney, most people weren’t too critical of his opinion and laughed it off.
