Exciting New Sushi Bar Opens in Pittsburgh

Kura Sushi, a revolving sushi bar, just opened on Sunday in the SouthSide Works area of Pittsburgh. The establishment is introducing the Kaiten sushi concept, characterized by sushi plates moving along a conveyor belt. This style of dining enjoys immense popularity in Japan, where it has been a culinary tradition for many decades.

According to Robert Kluger, the Chief Development Officer at Kura Sushi USA, this dining trend has been established in the United States for a considerable period. Inside the restaurant, a central conveyor belt weaves through the dining space, carrying plates of sushi that are shielded by specially designed ventilated sushi lids, effectively reducing airborne exposure.

Additionally, the restaurant employs plate-tracking technology to monitor the duration of each item’s circulation, ensuring that the food is consistently fresh. Since opening over the weekend, the sushi bar has received positive reviews online and currently has a five-star rating on Yelp. As seen below, it looks like a lot of people anticipated the grand opening as well, as a large line formed outside the door.

This marks Kura Sushi’s second location in Pennsylvania, following the opening of its Philadelphia branch in December. To celebrate the launch, the restaurant plans to offer tote backpacks to its customers, available while supplies last. Kura Sushi is conveniently situated at 415 Cinema Drive within the SouthSide Works area and is now open for business.
