Shocked customer notices ‘absurd’ tipping option for parking ticket

A Nashville resident was shocked to recently find a tip option when paying for an online parking ticket. This was an available option on the Park A+ website. Here, the customer was billed $20 for parking from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM at Marathon Village. Underneath this, was the option to add a tip. Although this was optional, it still begs the question as to why anyone would want to tip for a parking ticket. The customer took a screenshot of this and uploaded it to Reddit, simply writing ‘absurd‘ next to the image.

If nothing else, this shows just how widespread tipping culture has recently gotten in the USA. No longer is it just in the hospitality industry and it is now included with car parking fees. Responding to this on Reddit, one user wrote: “I used to tip more often but now that so many places that I don’t tip have added a tipping section, it’s made me a lot more comfortable just hitting “no tip” right in front of the people. I can’t wait for restaurants to just change menu prices so I can stop tipping there too, I hate tipping culture and wish restaurants would just pay people a fair wage” while many were shocked and outraged about the option to tip.

Interestingly, we also searched for Nashville parking on this website, which added a $2 ‘Descriptive Credentialing fee’ on top of a $0.25 ‘service fee‘. With this said, it looks as though this is not a one-off incident either.
