Din Tai Fung, the renowned global destination for delectable soup dumplings, has unveiled the opening date for its inaugural establishment within the city limits of Portland. This announcement was made on Wednesday.

This well-known chain had initially established its first Oregon branch at Washington Square mall in Tigard in 2018. However, the much-anticipated debut of its downtown Portland location at Pioneer Place mall is now confirmed for September 28, as per an official press release. This remarkable 11,000-square-foot space, previously slated for a spring 2023 launch, will be situated in the mall’s lower concourse, nestled beneath the upscale Gucci and Louis Vuitton stores.

Originating as a humble cooking oil shop, Din Tai Fung transitioned to serving the beloved xiao long bao, or soup dumplings, in Taipei back in 1972. Over the years, it has earned accolades, including a Michelin star for its Hong Kong branch and recognition as one of the world’s top 10 restaurants by The New York Times. Din Tai Fung has now expanded its presence to a dozen countries and four states on the West Coast, including Oregon, Washington, California, and Nevada. Regrettably, the founder of Din Tai Fung, Yang Bing-Yi, passed away earlier this year at the age of 96.

On September 28, Din Tai Fung is all set to inaugurate its second location in Oregon, marking its first presence in Portland. This exciting venture will take place within the lower concourse of Pioneer Place mall, located at 700 S.W. Fifth Ave., Suite 1040.
