New Restaurant to open in San Francisco’s Cliff House next year

The renowned restaurant known as the Cliff House, located on the western outskirts of San Francisco, has remained unoccupied since 2020. During this time, the National Park Service has refrained from disclosing the identity of the entity slated to take over the establishment.

However, recent revelations indicate that Sutro Lands End Partners LLC has secured a 20-year lease for the venue, situated within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. They have ambitious plans to reinvigorate both the primary space and the adjacent cafe within the Lands End Visitors Center, located just one block away. The anticipated reopening of the building to the general public is set for late 2024.

It is worth noting that due to the historic significance of the Cliff House, the incoming tenants are limited in their ability to make substantial alterations. The former proprietors, Mary and Dan Hountalas, had managed the restaurant for over four decades and held the trademark for its name.

This particular structure, erected in 1909, is the third iteration bearing the “Cliff House” name, with the first two succumbing to fires. Additionally, nearby seaside eatery Louis’ Restaurant also shuttered during the pandemic, prompting the National Park Service to announce its search for a new lessee for that establishment earlier this year.
