New Brewpub set to open in Collierville next year

A Collierville resident has unveiled her intention to establish Maroon Brew Co., the town’s inaugural craft brewpub, set to debut in spring 2024.

Maggie Emerson has secured a lease for a 4,800-square-foot space at 642 West Poplar, situated in a shopping center behind the former O’Charley’s location. This particular space was previously occupied by the Thomas Meat and Seafood Market.

Maroon Brew will feature a compact, five-barrel brewing system with a primary focus on taproom sales.

Maggie and her husband, Gerald, began their journey into brewing approximately a decade ago, kindling a passion for the craft. Maggie had spent over 13 years working at a software company before making a significant career change in 2021.

She bid farewell to her corporate role and joined Hook Point Brewing Co., which was then Collierville’s sole brewery. Her tenure at Hook Point began as a brewing assistant, eventually leading her to the position of head of production and operations. She parted ways with the brewery in June.

Although Hook Point maintains its production brewery in Collierville, efforts to establish a Collierville-based taproom several years ago were obstructed by a local ordinance stipulating that establishments serving alcohol must derive 50 percent of their sales from food. Consequently, Hook Point inaugurated its Ready Room taproom in East Memphis earlier this year.

Maggie and her spouse are deeply rooted in Collierville, with his upbringing in the town and their children attending Collierville schools. Her vision for Maroon Brew Co. extends beyond crafting exceptional brews; she aspires to create a communal hub for the community to gather and enjoy.
