SRT announces closure that will last for months

September 11, 2023 by No Comments

Philadelphia’s much-loved Schuylkill River Trail yesterday announced that it would be closed for some time. Specifically, it claims that the trail will re-open in December 2023. However, an exact date is not given and this is only an estimation. This information was provided by posters that could be found surrounding the trail as well as an announcement on the official website.

With this in mind, it should be noted that historically, government deadlines are not always met on time so it is entirely possible that its re-opening could actually happen sometime next year. More information can be seen in the poster below.

Here, the poster reads: ‘Closure alert: Schuylkill River Trail. A section of the Schuylkill River Trail (SRT) that is adjacent to the Flat Rock Dam project site will be closed Starting Monday, September 11th 2023.’ It also referenced that the section affected would be between Manayunk and Miquon.

The full length of the SRT is over 120 miles long and it has played an important part of history when it comes to Philadelphia’s wildlife culture. The new upgrades include restorations including a new canal among other interesting additions. It should be noted that due to the size of the SRT, it is only certain sections that will be closed, with vast parts of the trail open as usual.
