Today, a huge Brazilian military ship was spotted docking in Baltimore waters. As seen in the image below, the ship can be seen with the city center in the background. For scale, this has a skimmer next to it which is absolutely dwarfed by the sheer size of its Brazilian counterpart.

For those wondering, this is a U-27 which is used for training purposes. It was originally made in the early 1980s and $124.2 million. Despite being over 40 years old, it’s clearly still going strong and has plenty of life left in it.

According to locals, this isn’t the first time that this vessel has visited Baltimore either, and was sighted back in 2010. If you’re not familiar with the military then you may be confused as to what a Brazilian navy ship is doing in Baltimore. It turns out that this is more common than you may think and often allied countries will use each other to dock and refuel. Sometimes, you will even see military planes from other countries in US airports as well.

With this in mind, the U-27 won’t be here forever and there’s no telling whether it will ever return. In other words, if you happened to see this vessel in Baltimore then you can consider yourself to be quite lucky.
