Jersey City mourns as legendary artist Matt Caputo suddenly passes away
Yesterday it was announced that iconic Jersey City artist Matt Caputo had sadly passed away. Caputo was known for his unique style of drawings which often included New Jersey and New York-themed images such as tributes to Seinfeld and The Sopranos. As well as this, he was the creative director of CultureFly who are a pop culture apparel brand. Not only this but those who follow his social media pages or who have met him in real life will also attest that he was also a very witty and smart individual.
In a lengthy tribute, the Jersey City Instagram account Barcade wrote: “It pains us to announce the unexpected loss of beloved local artist and friend to all Matthew Caputo, whose sudden departure has left our community in shock and mourning. His talent and warm spirit touched the lives of many.”
The statement ended by saying: “While the cause of his untimely passing is not known at this time, he had been struggling to recover from his most recent bout with Covid.” Before adding that a time and date would be arranged for his upcoming funeral. Unsurprisingly, Jersey City locals paid their tributes, describing Matt as a kind, talented, and creative man. Sadly, he went away far too soon but his illustrations and creativity will live on far beyond his death.
