Failed mayoral candidate Seneca Scott calls for ‘Soft martial law’ due to crimes in Oakland

Yesterday, an ex-mayoral candidate for the city of Oakland announced that a ‘soft martial law’ was needed to restore the rule of law and further commented that local businesses were failing due to ‘pervasive crime’. These were the words Tweeted by Seneca Scott who is also the founder of Neighbors Together Oakland and an advocate of community farming.

Despite this tweet causing controversy and a lot of disagreement, it also garnered a degree of support from those who argued that Oakland was a soft touch when it comes to crime. It should be noted that since his failed mayoral run, Scott has stayed active in the Oakland political scene and is not shy of speaking his mind or engaging in community events.

This isn’t the first time that Scott has courted controversy either. Back in 2021, he was allegedly arrested for brandishing a firearm and over the years has been very outspoken about government policy both on a local and national level. Since his mayoral campagin, Scott has often been outspoken on issues such as crime and has gained a cult-like status with certain followers. Based on this, it won’t be the last time that the self-proclaimed ‘Warrior in the Garden’ will be out of the news as it seems that he is often fond of sparking controversial talking points.
