Dollop Coffee claims Chicago Police forced homeless users into cafe after restroom argument

September 5, 2023 by No Comments

One of Chicago’s most popular coffee houses recently had a run-in with the law and wrote a long, very public explanation of their side of the story. To cut a long story short, the Dollop restroom policy has apparently long been exclusive for customers. In other words, if you walk in and want to use it without paying then you may be rejected. This policy was enforced on two Chicago Police Department officers. According to Dollop, they did not take kindly to this and reacted very unprofessionally.

According to the lengthy post made here, Dollop claimed that: “The officers returned twice with individuals who they claimed were “homeless” and drug addicted and harassed our staff members about them being allowed to use the bathroom. These officers were offended that they were being treated like everyone else and they were bullying employees. And using unhoused and impoverished people to do so. It was disgusting.”

The story continues and in a bizarre twist, the Dollop writer then goes into a rant about receiving public backlash over the incident on Twitter. This also reveals the political spectrum that Dollop sides with. For impartiality reasons, we should point out that this is the version of events put forward to Dollop.

Although the Chicago Police Department has yet to respond, they may well do if this story gains more traction. Regardless of where this story goes, hopefully it gets put to bed sooner rather than later and these two Chicago institutions can move forward without any more public spats. Unfortunately though, this may not be the end of the story.
