Recently, you may have spotted a number of signs around Indianapolis that read ‘Boycott White Castle’. Sometimes these are in front yards, other times people even hold them up while out and about. This may sound quite confusing considering that White Castle is merely a local restaurant and doesn’t exactly have the reputation of an evil corporation. However, it turns out that this story is not a new one and has been going on for many years at this point. Here’s what you need to know.

In short, James Leonard, who is a retired Army colonel started the movement and has been locked in a legal dispute with White Castle for years. This happened when he purchased land near the site which he planned to redevelop into storage units. His next step was to put food trucks in the same area. However, due to a clause with the easement, this was blocked by White Castle restaurant. It turns out that Leonard did not have the legal powers to do so.

Since then, Leonard has been in a bitter battle with White Castle and has denounced them at every availability. This campaign has featured a social media presence, a legal battle, and of course, physical signs. It has also divided parts of Indianapolis, with some agreeing with Leonard that he should be allowed to create a community space, while others believe he should have been aware of the legal situation before buying the land. Whatever your views on this scenario, it looks like this one will continue to the very end and this saga is far from over.
