Boston locals fuming after EMS services announce zero availability

Yesterday evening, the Boston EMS Facebook page announced that after 17.27 PM, there would be no ALS or BLS ambulances citywide due to a lack of availability. This prompted a furious response from Bostonians who commented on the Facebook statement.

Here, a user named Melissa Fabiano Flavin wrote, “My question is why is there always zero availability? Very sad and scary to hear.” while another resident added: “Just another day in Wu’s administration where public safety takes a back seat to everything else.”

As seen, the comments were less than complimentary. In fairness, it is quite a scary thought when thinking about a city with no ambulances on call out, and would be a particularly frightening prospect if you were older or unwell.

Overall, the statement was met with a mixture of anger and sadness due to obvious reasons. It also begs the question as to why this scenario happened in the first place considering that resident safety should be the first priority when it comes to the Boston city budget.

On a similar note, it’s also important to respect the EMS workers who are clearly under a lot of pressure at the moment. Often, the word ‘heroes‘ gets thrown around too much – but in this case, it seems like a perfectly valid word to describe these workers during pressing times. Hopefully however, this scenario improves sooner rather than later.
