Snake found in Sioux City Target shopping cart

The method by which the snake found its way into Target remains unclear, though authorities speculate that the reptile may have infiltrated the store by hitching a ride in an outdoor cart that was subsequently brought indoors. According to Cindy Rarat, who manages the Sioux City Animal Adoption and Rescue Center, the boa constrictor’s origin could be linked to a nearby apartment complex, a potential car escape, or even deliberate abandonment.

“We’re not exactly sure how it came to be there,” Rarat stated.

Subsequently, the creature was transported to the Sioux City Animal Adoption and Rescue Center, where it currently resides. Rarat confirmed that the snake, measuring four and a half feet in length, has received proper care, sustenance, and maintains robust health.

A representative from the facility informed USA TODAY that no individual has stepped forward to assert ownership of the animal. Meanwhile, a herpetologist hailing from Lincoln, Nebraska, who also serves as a professor, has offered to adopt the snake. The intention is to utilize the reptile for educational purposes within a classroom setting. Pending the conclusion of the mandatory seven-day waiting period, the herpetologist will retrieve the snake from the facility on Saturday.

In line with Sioux City regulations, possession of constrictor snakes as pets is prohibited. Should an individual emerge to claim the snake, they will need to provide evidence of ownership and arrange accommodation for the snake outside city boundaries.
