Iowa City Sculptors Showcase new art pieces

August 14, 2023 by No Comments

The Sculptors Showcase, an annual public art initiative, provides a platform for artists from Iowa to exhibit their creations within the Iowa City community. The Public Art Advisory Committee (PAAC) of Iowa City is responsible for curating the sculptures, making selections based on submitted proposals, and organizing their display for a duration of one year.

In the current year, 2023, a total of eight distinct sites have been designated throughout the community. These locations include the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area, sections along the Iowa River Trail, spots within Riverfront Crossings Park, and installations at Mercer and Scott parks. So, if you’re in these areas then keep your eyes peeled – as you just may happen to run into one of them.

These temporary art installations are scheduled to be showcased until July 2024. Participating artists will be awarded a commission of $1,500 for the entirety of the one-year exhibition period. As seen, these pieces include various shapes, sizes, and meanings surrounding Iowa city culture. Based on these creations, it’s fair to say that Iowa has plenty of talent when it comes to creating art.

Not only this but it’s also nice to see a bit of culture and creativity come to life. Undoubtedly, these creations will create talking points amongst those who are lucky enough to encounter them.
