After a week-long investigation, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office apprehended a Minnesota fugitive who had been concealing himself in an Iowa cornfield. Ronnie Leroy Snyder, a 57-year-old resident of Winnebago, was located and apprehended without any complications at 11:30 a.m.

On August 10, 2023, the Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a suspicious individual on 190th Street, situated to the south of West Union, subsequent to the retrieval of a stolen vehicle. Upon revisiting the area, another stolen car was discovered on 180th Street, but the perpetrator was absent.

The following day, August 11, 2023, at 8:45 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office responded to another report of a suspicious person, this time from the staff at Inspiring Lives, an establishment situated on 190th Street, mere miles away from the site of the previous day’s incident. Upon their arrival, Snyder fled into a cornfield but was subsequently apprehended.

It came to light that Snyder had an outstanding federal warrant for his arrest due to a violation of Federal Parole, alongside another warrant for burglary. He was transported to the Fayette County Jail before being handed over to the custody of the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office.

Synder awaits trial and his court date is yet to be decided.
