Woman killed in Iowa City crash – Man cited for running red light

On a Monday afternoon in Iowa City, a tragic incident unfolded as a woman lost her life in a collision. The victim, identified as Kristina Pearson, aged 30 and a resident of Wellman, was driving northbound on Boyrum Street. Her vehicle was struck by a truck driven by Drake Brezina, 24, from Riverside, which was traveling eastbound on Highway 6. This highlights the dangers of running a red light, and in this case, the consequences were sadly fatal.

Following the collision, both Pearson and a passenger accompanying her were swiftly transported by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment of their injuries. Regrettably, Pearson succumbed to her injuries later that same day.

The passenger in Pearson’s vehicle is currently in critical condition, while no other injuries were reported in the incident. Brezina was issued a citation for disregarding a red light. The authorities continue to investigate the crash, with the potential for additional charges pending.

On a final note, our thoughts and prayers go out to Kristina Pearson and her family. With this in mind, hopefully her family can get closure and justice in due course as she will undoubtedly be missed. Similarly, we can only hope that the passenger makes a recovery as well.
