Will Power exhibited remarkable performance on Saturday, securing pole positions for both races in this weekend’s IndyCar Series doubleheader at Iowa Speedway. The starting lineups for the doubleheader were determined based on individual lap speeds, where the first lap determined Saturday’s 250-lap race lineup, and the second lap determined Sunday’s 250-lap race lineup.

Power’s impressive first lap achieved a speed of 181.426 mph, followed by an equally impressive lap of 181.578 mph. This achievement was particularly significant for Power, as he expressed his determination to win this year’s race, especially since he has never claimed victory at Iowa before.

Saturday’s race will witness a Team Penske dominance, with Scott McLaughlin securing the second spot with a first lap speed of 180.334 mph, and Josef Newgarden, a four-time winner at Iowa, taking the third spot at 180.081 mph. These three drivers were the only ones who managed to average above 180 mph in their two laps.

Notably, Power’s brilliance earned him the 69th and 70th poles of his career, providing him with two bonus points in the series standings. Looking ahead to Sunday’s race, Power and McLaughlin will lead the front row, while Newgarden, facing some challenges in his second lap, qualified in the seventh position at 177.863 mph.

Despite series points leader Alex Palou facing a slower practice session on Friday, he will start in the seventh position for Saturday’s race and 12th on Sunday.
