This week, the city of Ankeny announced that its residents and businesses in the Iowan city could access free compost and mulch. The announcement was made on the official Ankeny Twitter page which also came with a picture, displaying the free compost on show.

Here, the Tweet claimed, The mulch and compost are available 24/7 outside the fence of the City Maintenance Facility at 211 SE Lorenz Drive, while supplies last.As you’d imagine, this showed quite a lot of free compost. Apparently, this has been available since spring and is a nice touch by the city – as sometimes compost can be quite expensive if you’re to use it in bulk.

Compost is particularly useful for those renovating their yards which is fairly common during the hot, summer months, so this is a nice touch from the city. According to the Ankeny website, this is available 24/7 and comes from the leaves that the city collects during the fall. This is also natural compost which has not undergone any processing which means that it can also be used commercially by local businesses as well.

Speaking of this, it doesn’t matter how big or small your needs are – Ankeny residents are allowed to take as much mulch and compost as they desire as it’s literally sitting in a pile. Having said this, once it’s gone, it’s gone and won’t be collected again until fall.
