Three additional Bartell Drugs stores are set to shut down, including one in Kirkland that began operations just two years ago. This comes as Rite Aid, Bartell’s struggling parent company, intensifies its bankruptcy proceedings.

Rite Aid confirmed on Friday that the Bartell Drugs outlet located in Seattle’s Roosevelt Square, at the intersection of 12th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 65th Street, will cease operations on Nov. 27.

The Bartell store on Southeast Kent-Kangley Road in Kent is slated to close on Nov. 19. Meanwhile, the Kirkland Bartell on Central Way, which started its business in November 2021, is also set to shut down on Nov. 27. As of Saturday morning, Rite Aid had not responded to a request for confirmation made on Friday evening.

These closures come in the wake of Rite Aid’s recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. This move is expected to provide some financial relief to the Pennsylvania-based retailer as it grapples with substantial losses and debt.

Prescriptions from the Kirkland Bartell will be transferred to the Bartell store in the nearby Houghton Center, as informed by store employees. Meanwhile, prescriptions from the Kent Bartell will be shifted to a neighboring Rite Aid location.

On Oct. 17, Rite Aid informed the bankruptcy court of its decision to close 154 stores. This list includes the aforementioned Bartell stores and two Rite Aid outlets set to close this month.
