Several fire departments from the Des Moines metropolitan area were called to address a fire at a self-storage facility located off Delaware Avenue in Ankeny during the evening hours of Monday.

Responding to the incident at around 9:34 p.m., the Ankeny Fire Department arrived at StorageMart, situated at 205 S.E. Delaware Ave. Upon arrival, they discovered smoke emanating from numerous storage units, along with intense flames breaching the building’s roof, as stated in an official news release.

Supplementary assistance from fire departments in Altoona, Bondurant, Johnston-Grimes, Saylor, and Polk City was necessary to address the situation. The fire was eventually brought under control after several hours.

The extent of the damage incurred by StorageMart due to the fire remains uncertain, as deputy chief Dan Schellhase did not promptly respond to a call from the Des Moines Register. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is currently being investigated. If not for the swift response of the fire department then it’s also possible that this could have caused a masse of damage to more of storage facility. With this in mind, it could have been much worse. Stay tuned for further updates, as we will provide you with information regarding the fire’s cause as soon as we receive more details.
