An image went viral on social media yesterday which showed two people holding hands in protest of the bike lane at 28th Street. By lying on the floor, this meant that cyclists could not use part of the path and would have to temporarily use a different route. It is understood that only two people were involved in this protest which wouldn’t have really affected the traffic flow either due to the structure of the bike lane.

It is believed that this protest was carried out by the owner of a local hair salon who claimed that the newly installed lane blocked access to her business. As you can imagine, this could have financially negative consequences due to blocking off the public. Nonetheless, this form of protest does seem quite futile.

If nothing else, this highlights the growing divide between those in favor of bike lanes and those against it. The bad news for those against the new lanes is that more are planned for Baltimore in the coming months.
