Minneapolis Eatery announces drop in service charge due to customer backlash

November 17, 2023 by No Comments

Yesterday, Minneapolis restaurant Petite Leon announced that it was dropping its service charge from 20% to 4.5%. This came after backlash from customers where some had claimed to boycott the venue due to its high fees. While this isn’t the first eatery to cause controversy with fees in recent times, it is one of the few that have publically acknowledged them and made a change as a result.

On Instagram, Petite Leon announced this move as they wrote: ‘Just a little update on our service charge. After too many meetings and a lot of discussion, we decided to drop our 20% fee to 4.5%. We felt it was the right move and more in line with our ethos as a neighborhood restaurant. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.’

The news was taken well on social media, with over 500 people liking the statement. The comments section was also filled with numerous locals who praised the decision with one even writing: “Nice, we may come to eat now.” From a PR perspective, it looks like this was a good move and may even end up earning the restaurant more money in the long run due to potentially attracting more customers.

Petite León is a restaurant that specializes in Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine. The menu features dishes like carnitas tacos, hibiscus-glazed duck breast, and nopales con espinacas and has been praised by food critics and diners alike for its excellent food and welcoming service.
